Groton School, a prestigious college-preparatory school in Groton, Massachusetts, partnered with Black Bear Seamless Flooring to modernize women’s campus bathrooms as part of a multi-summer renovation initiative. The goal was to create a seamless, durable system that improves maintenance efficiency while elevating the overall look and longevity of the space. Over several summers, Black Bear Seamless Flooring has worked alongside the school to progressively upgrade campus housing bathrooms — delivering consistent, high-performance results within tight, seasonal construction windows.
The Process
  • Step 1
    Coat with Elast-O-Coat and broadcast quarts (over wood).
  • Step 2
    Apply Dur-A-Glaze #4 with a second quartz broadcast.
  • Step 3
    Apply an Ultra-Clear grout coat.
  • Step 4
    Finish with Armor Top Satin Clear w/ Grit.
  • Step 5
    Install 4-inch Seamless Cove Base with 1-inch radius.
  • Step 6
    Apply Cove Rez w/ Flake Broadcast as the base coat.
  • Step 7
    Apply a second Cove Rez w/ Flake Broadcast coat.

    Apply Ultra-Clear grout coat.
  • Step 9
    Finish with Armor Top Satin Clear w/ NO Grit.

The team faced a tight deadline, needing to complete the bathrooms in time for other contractors to finish their work before the school year began. Working in confined spaces made the project even more challenging, especially achieving an even flake coverage on the walls. To address this, the crew used a flake gun, ensuring a consistent and professional finish.

Black Bear Seamless Flooring helped The Groton School simplify maintenance and cleaning with a durable, monolithic surface designed to stay hygienic and bacteria-resistant. The new flooring gives the bathrooms a fresh, modern look while providing slip-resistant protection that effectively manages excess shower water, enhancing safety for campus residents. To modernize the bathrooms and simplify maintenance, Black Bear Seamless Flooring installed two durable epoxy systems: one for the floor and one for the shower walls. The seamless floor gives the space a clean, modern look while handling excess water from the showers and improving slip resistance, thanks to the grit in the Armor Top coating.
